How you can Remove & Replace the PCM on a Ford Truck 1Raise the hood and prop it open. Eliminate the negative (black) battery terminal with an open-ended wrench and then the positive (red) terminal. Wait at least two minutes before starting work on the PCM.

2Remain in the engine compartment and, using a socket wrench, loosen the bolt that retains the electrical connector to the PCM diagnostic car tool.3Inside the vehicle, pry the scuff plate off the bottom of the passenger's side door with a slotted screwdriver. Get rid of the kick plate from the passenger's foot well in the same way.

4Remove the retaining bolts on the top and bottom of the PCM with a socket wrench. Carefully slide the PCM out from under the dashboard.5Replace the new PCM onto the mounting and install the retaining bolts Car Diagnostic Tools.6Replace the foot well kick plate and the passenger door scuff plate by snapping them into place.7Install the electrical connector retaining bolt under the hood, then replace the positive and negative terminals to the battery.
