US Patent Awarded to Cereplast for High Heat Resistant Polylactic Acid Compositions

The patent expands the company’s growing intellectual property (IP) portfolio and also protects the formulation that was discovered by Mr. Frederic Scheer, Chairman and CEO of Cereplast, and Mr. William E. Kelly, a member of Cereplast’s research and development team.

Scheer said that the new patent reinforces Cereplast's leadership status in the bioplastics industry by protecting its intellectual property. He added that the patent awarded is in line with their long-term growth strategy as they continue to produce different grades of bioplastic resin materials that meet the market demands.

PLA has drawbacks related to heat resistance and melt strength, which has limited the use of the material in high temperature applications. On the other hand, Cereplast's high heat resistant polymer compositions can be compostable and can preserve their structural characteristics at temperatures higher than 74°C.
Cereplast's sustainable bioplastics are used as alternatives to traditional plastics in major converting processes, such as extrusions, blow molding, thermoforming and injection molding. Cereplast Compostables resins are suitable for single-use applications, which mainly require high biobased content and compostability, particularly in the food service sector. Cereplast Sustainables resins are ideal for applications in packaging, consumer electronics, automotive and other industries.Learn more information at http://www.obd2us.com/.
